    Very good

Clean, pleasant rooms with a beautiful view over the bay. Though pricey, the food at the restaurant was of excellent quality and the service impeccable (note we did not order the omlettes).

There is a steep climb up 4 flights of stairs to get to our room, with no offer to assist with luggage.

The hotel felt shabby and past its best. So it was much too expensive and we would not stay there again. We had booked a superior room but it didn't feel superior and the only difference between it and our son's standard room was that we had a third bed (which we did not need) in the lobby.

Disappointments: Given a room in the annexe without advance notice of this - wifi doesn't work in the annexe. The third bed in the room was a metal fold-up "Zed" bed. The bathroom was poor - paint flaking from damp patch on ceiling; black mould all round the top of the bath, but, most annoyingly, it took nearly an hour to run a bath to half height, by whivh time the water had cooled to tepid! Paid a klot of money to have two dogs in the room, but the parquet floor was not washed once during our week's stay. It would have been nice to have eaten more often in the hotel restaurant but it was exorbitantly expensive with a very restricted menu and a wine list for which you need an overdraft!

    Fabulous

Wonderful location on the Mont. Quaint interior. Superb restaurant. Staff was friendly and helpful. They made sure that their guests were aware of the parking/tide issue, events on the Mont, and timing to arrive at the various sights.

Because of the history (age) and position on the Mont, everything is small and narrow, especially the stairs, hallways, doorways, and rooms. But, that is what makes it such a special experience. Do not expect to take your luggage to the hotel. Use a small carry-on type bag, especially for one night lodging. And, be very aware of the tides and the car parking in the hotel lot.

The location was its only plus. The bed was like sleeping on the kitchen bench.....the old fashioned double bed was only suitable for one person....a short person.

    Good

very good location near bus stop from Rennes.

we were woke up because of the very noisy truks during early morning (clearing the sand from tides). no lifts which is tough to bring baby & carrier up to 4th floor.

    Fabulous

The location was awesome. It was the first hotel as you arrive into the entrance of Mont Saint-Michel. Our room was on the 2nd floor and overlooked rooftops of other parts of the Mont as well as part of bay.

It was quite a hike to get to our room, which was in the annex.

The location on Mt. St. Michel is great.

There were flies everywhere. I asked in my res if there was an elevator as I have problems with stairs. I had to climb five flights to get to our room. There is no lobby or place to just sit. The lights did not work in our bathroom. The wi fi did not work. The toilet was not secured to the floor and it was scary to sit on it. The restaurant is very expensive and we did not have good service and the food was not terrific. I had a fish stew that was tasteless. To their credit, the hotel gave me a 20% discount after I complained about the room.

    Very good

La Mere Poulard has an excellent position on the main entry road to Mt St Michel. The hotel is very atmospheric and rooms comfortable, however, some guests may need to be aware that there are no elevators available.

The dining room is classified as three star but was overpriced for what was actually on offer. A choice of table was not an option although the room was never more than one third full. Staff were not welcoming and tried to hurry us through the meal, suggesting coffee be taken in the piano bar.

Little accomadation of elderly travellers. Were offered no help in carrying heavy luggage up to 3rd floor, although I appreciate the fact that the hotel switched us to a lower floor.

    Exceptional

Staying at La Mere Poulard was a great experience that really completed our visit. We traveled as 3 generations of women and each of us enjoyed our experience there. The stairs were a little tough for my mom but she would not have changed anything! I would recommend La Mere Poulard to cap off the trip to Mont St. Michel!

I thought the dining was expensive and the choices were limited

    Exceptional

Mont Saint Michel is overrun with tourists during the day but when they leave in the evening there are only the few guests at the hotels on the island and a few employees. It is very peaceful.

None of the area is handicap accessible.

    Fabulous

There was no lift and we were on the third floor, with winding stairs. But given the architecture of the building, a lift is probably not an option! Also the bar lounge was closed the two nights we were there - "some problem" that did not get solved.

    Exceptional

We were so pleased with our stay at Mere Poulard! It is a beautiful, authentic step back into the past. The decor is lovely, the food is incredible, and it's amazing to know you're staying where pilgirms have been visiting for 1,000 years! The room was very clean and quiet, and the bed was comfortable. It was spacious, especially considering the age. And the restaurant was absolutely wonderful.

We had trouble with the internet, which made last-minute work needs tough.

  • 7.8
    Fabulous

Hotel is conveniently located - right inside the city walls - so you don't have to schlep your things very far. We did have to carry it all up the stairs to the 5th floor, but the beautiful view out our window was worth it! The room was pretty teeny, but the bed was comfortable and the hotel feels old and magical. Framed pictures line the stairwells and many of the public rooms showing all of the famous people who have stayed there in it's hundred year history. Sleeping on the island itself allows you to experience the island in the early morning and evening, without the crush of midday tourists.
